After trying to re-install the system, and a frantic call to my workplace's IS department, it seems our computer is done for. Most of our items are backed up on an external drive, but some things are not. I'm bringing it in today to see if we can retrieve any data. Then the search begins for a new tower. We may opt to wait until October 22, when Windows 7 is released.
Fortunately, all of our precious kitty photos are safe on the external!
UPDATE: They are unable to retrieve any data from the machine. The hard drive has failed, and now the power supply too. At least we tried. I urge any of you to have an external drive! They are so worthwhile and cost $100 or less.
