Easter lamb cake

I've "inherited" an old, cast-aluminum lamb cake pan that once belonged to my Grandma. It makes a three-dimensional lamb cake. I used it for the first time yesterday.

Here is the pan, greased with shortening and floured, the old-fashioned way. For grins, I weighed this pan. It's a hefty 2 lb. 3 oz.

Pour the batter into the front of the lamb. The back piece attaches on top and has a venting hole.

The back of the lamb, out of the oven and cooling.

Here he is, out of the pan and sitting up.

The ears are quite fragile and came loose, so I re-attached them with toothpicks.

Our friend is all frosted and decorated. I piped on black eyes and added a pink tint to the ears.

The plastic eggs in back prop him up a bit so he doesn't fall.

Looks good enough to eat!

Aw so cute! We never had lamb cakes for Easter (I am a weirdo and can't eat things that look like cute animals - I couldn't eat the chocolate bunnies either). But it is cute, cute enough not to eat (which is really a compliment!)

That is a nice pan to inherit from your grand mother! You did well on the cake!
