Friday flashback and more updates

Today's Friday flashback is from December 2006. I had forgotten Jim had taken these photos of Tucker. It was the Christmas he'd had pancreatitis. He was a very sick boy that month and spent weeks in the animal hospital. I will never forget that time, but I'm so thankful he pulled through.

In other news, my father-in-law is finally home from the hospital, after staying there 12 days. Sadly, they couldn't give a diagnosis, so they left there with few answers. My mom is slowly healing. Her wound is healing "ok," according to her surgeon.

Lastly, I'm going to borrow a live trap tonight from the local animal shelter and try to trap Graystripe for spaying/neutering next week (I still don't know his sex). They have an outdoor feral program and he will be altered, given a rabies shot, and have his one ear clipped (as a sign that he's been altered). I know some of you have done this before, but this is my first time, so I'd appreciate some purrs. Graystripe is an elusive cat, who won't be happy to be trapped, but it's for his/her own good, so it needs to be done, especially before the spring kitten season.

Good luck on all fronts. And here's hoping Graystripe does appreciate being a home body kind of cat after this. :-)

Good luck with Graystripe! Here are a couple of tips that have helped us with trapping. Put the trap out unset for a few days so he gets used to seeing it. Maybe even put his food in there so he gets used to going in and out of it. Also, cover it partly with a towel and then once you trap him cover it all the way. Another good tip is to skip feeding him the day before so he is really hungry and more likely to go in the trap. Put a few drops of food (or tuna juice) leading up the trap and then straight into the back so he has to step all the way in.

Good luck!

Your pal, Pip

Mr.Pip gives good advice. Tuna juice works very well - just hope you do not get a raccoon two days in a row!
Had to sterilize the trap! But it calmed down the male cat a lot. He is still an outside boy - trying to be inside boy and will be sooner or later. You are doing a good thing.

I am glad you pulled through, too, Tucker. You are such a sweet boy. Hope Graystripe can be trapped so he/she can have a much better life.

Good luck with trapping Graystripe! When our mom trapped Zoey, she was afraid it was going to take forever because Zoey was so wary of humans. But it only took 10 minutes!! Make sure you don't feed Graystripe for awhile before trying to trap him/her and use really stinky food to attract him/her.
