Barney and the ear tip

I mentioned recently that a newer feral had been coming to feed this winter. He is so so skiddish that I could never get a look at him. On Sunday, I saw a flash of fur outside of the window, and I was able to shoot two photos of him walking through the back yard.

To my delight, I'm pretty sure he has an ear tip. :-) I zoomed in on both of them in Photoshop, and his left ear does seem clipped. What do you think?

Our local shelter has been aggressive in promoting TNR (trap-neuter-release) for ferals, and provides free and reduced rate spays and neuters.

This is great news--for him, obviously and for me. I won't have to trap "him" this spring.  He's not making any kittens, and has a place to eat. I've named "him" Barney.

Something startled him. He did this at least three times in the time I was watching him.

I love the marking on his back foot. If you biggify, you can see the ear tip pretty well.

I can't tell in the first photo, even zooming in, but his ear *does* look tipped to me, zooming in on the second. Fingers crossed! I wonder if there's a managed feral colony in the area?

Yup. Looks like it to me. And I should know 'cause my brother Rushton has an ear like that.

Peeps don't quite know how it happened. He was NOT feral. Way too good with peeps to be feral. They think that maybe he was a barn cat and someone went through the colony, alterin' them all.
