Making a fun sign

A couple of weeks ago, Jim pointed out this box sign he found at a gift shop inside a restaurant:
It was a simple, yet small sign that cost $12. I wondered if I make one myself.

As luck would have it, I found an 8 x 10 size Valentine sign at Target for 90% off. I thought I could repurpose it.

I used my Mouse sander to remove the lettering, which was actually pretty easy. It didn't even remove the paint underneath, which saved me some time.

I printed out some fonts in different sizes to check the lettering size.

I cut out each letter, carefully. I then used spray adhesive to lightly tack them to the sign.

I used spray paint to lightly spray several coats of paint over the sign. Here it is after the first coat.

Once everything was dry, I removed the letters. Some of the edges had lifted up and had paint under them. I used a Q-tip with nail polish remover to get rid of the extra paint. (I wanted an imperfect look, so I left some oddities in place.)

Then, I used a sanding block to distress the wood and edges.

Tada! I love how it turned out.

Now, to find the perfect place to put it. . .

That's fantastic, I love it! I'm so impressed with your creativity--and patience.

I could use that sign for my office cubicle. LOL.

Cute - though it makes me impatient to see your silk tye Easter projects later this month. :-)

So, are you off to Menards to start buying extra scrap lumber?

Wow, it's even nicer than the original sign. Mine would have read just "Go Away." LOL Hope the furkids can read.
