The sweetest, saddest sign

I received this card in the mail from my niece yesterday (age 8). I admit I burst out crying when I saw it, but know that her heart is in the right place.

Thank you for all of your suggestions and help. We are reaching out to as many people, vet clinics, etc. as possible to find him. I'm updating my posts on craigslist, contact or visit the shelters daily. I truly hope he will find his way back home (if we don't find him first).

I read an article last night about 10-14 days being a "threshold point," where a cat whereby driven by hunger or thirst to return home. We've heard stories about cats returning after 1, 2, 6 weeks or more. Sigh.

Tucker, it's time for your great adventure to end. Your mom and dad are worried sick about you. And so are we. Purring hard for your safe return.

I know you have had a thousand suggestions but I have one more.
My Minnie escaped out a door one week after a 500 mile move - she had never been out of the new house.

Two day of panic and someone suggested I prop open the screen porch door. Drag out a sleeping bag for myself and a bowl of stinky tuna.

She came around 10 pm....but would not come up to deck and into porch.

So tuna and I went and sat in yard and waited - it took two hours - but she crept close enough for me to grab and bring her in.

If you have a garage or porch, put out YOUR dirty clothes and his bedding - they have great noses.

I do know exactly how you feel. It is a terrible ache....be patient, he'll come home.

Thank you, Mrs. B. We have his carrier with blanket in it, and have the garage door open and the porch door propped open. I was considering putting my used pillowcase nearby--and after reading this, now I will. I'll use Jim's pillowcase too.

Rene, I'm still praying for Tucker; he's had one miracle, so why not two?

Sir...get home now! Your Mom and Dad miss you.

Hi. I'm just seeing this sad news and wanted to chime in with some advice, because anything is a good idea if it might help bring Tucker home.

Go to Google Voice and you can get a number for free and have it forward to yours (or even to several different numbers so someone always answers). Find something like 555-HI TUCKER or something easily memorable. This way if someone spots him, but didn't write the number from a flier, they will know the number because it was easy. The area code doesn't have to be yours, just look for one that has the numbers that spell HI TUCKER (or whatever you choose).

I did this for a lost cat once, and was still getting calls for updates months later, because they just remembered it. :)

You may also want to get findtucker.com (or something like that) and just get a free blog and put your contact information on the page. So if they don't remember the number, they might remember the URL. You could also post updates there for concerned neighbors and stuff.

Just a couple thoughts. I hope he comes home soon. <3

What a very touching card from your niece. It made me tear up, too.
Tucker will be found soon. So many great suggestions by everyone. I've heard of one kitty surviving 30 days when he inadvertently got trapped in a truck and was transported to another state. He survived on condensation formed inside of the truck. Cats are amazing survivors.

Whiskers returned after two weeks, in the middle of the night. His paws showed a lot of wear. The only thing we could figure was he had crawled up in the spare tire under Bo's truck and fell asleep. When Bo went to get pizza Whiskers must have inadvertently went too, got out when the truck stopped and ran off into the woods near the pizza place and walked home. The whole time he was missing no one saw him even though we had flyers up everywhere. He apparently only walked at night and hid during the day.
