Things not to say to someone when they've lost their cat

In the past 10 days, I've met some caring and helpful people. However, there have also been people who have said rude or inconsiderate things. Here are some examples:

1. Making a joke. This is NOT funny, nor did I wish for this to happen.
2. Saying "It's just a cat/pet." Tucker has helped me through some hard times. He means more to me than I can explain.
3. Sending us spam. This happened to Jim, and he did not download the file(s) when the "person" didn't respond.
4. Not answering your door. We aren't threatening people. You can see our red eyes and lost posters in our hands. We would do the same for you if the situation were reversed.
5. Offering to replace our cat. We want him home!
6. Saying that he won't look the same if he comes home. We don't care what he may look like. We love him regardless.

What you CAN do for me:

1. Let me cry on your shoulder.
2. If you live in my city, offer to hang up a poster in your vet's office or community board.
3. Offer to check lost and found pet websites.
4. If you really, really care, offer to search with me. Just to have someone to walk with me will mean so much.
5. CALL if you see him, anytime day or night.

It's NOT a joke. We are continuing to pray for your family and will add those "stupid" people to our list. They need sense and hearts really badly!
(((hugs))) and more (((hugs)))!
And purrayers and prayers and every good thought we can think of!

Oh dear Rene and Jim...my heart breaks for you both so much. I do know what you are feeling right now...I have been in your shoes two different times. NEVER give up hope...NEVER stop waiting! My first lost kitty came home after a while...then my precious second kitty came home after a week. She had to have been shut in the vacant home across the street...got in somehow and when the new owners moved in, Minka was on my doorstep that evening...back home again. That week with her being gone was the worst I ever had...I cried all day long each day...more than during my divorce! As a child, I lost a kitty who just left my Oma's house in Germany...after a year...he was home once again...battered a bit and I nursed him back to health! NEVER NEVER give up dear friend. You are doing everything you can and I pray Tucker comes back to you loving purrsons soon.
Love Karla

we are so sorry that people have been so inconsiderate.

when our Tommy went missing, the nicest thing that happened was when our friend Miss Kelly said she would be right over to help mom search. we wish we lived closer to help.... but we are purring and hoping Tucker gets found

People never fail to amaze me, in both good and bad ways. My jaw dropped when I read some of the things you were told!!

I'm stuck in paper-editing (and poster-making) hell, but I could help search later this week! I'll keep checking MADACC, too. You guys are in my prayers.

Proof that people can be idiots. Extra hugs from my part of the world.

If you need a weekend walking buddy per #4, let me know, hon.

Humans can be so insensitive and stupid sometimes which is why I prefer being with kitties. They are our children. You have lots of shoulders to cry on, Rene, and we will always be here for you. Tucker will be home. We will never give up hope.
