This month's review item is Stella & Chewy's freeze-dried food, in Yummy Lickin' Salmon & Chicken flavor.
We love Stella & Chewy's raw food and feed it as part of our regular rotation. We've only dabbled in feeding freeze-dried food.
Pros: Grain free, has benefits of feeding raw food, convenient if you don't have much freezer space to store raw food
Cons: You must let it sit for a bit of rehydrate the food, contains pumpkin seed (?)
When using freeze-dried food, you must add water and wait a bit before serving to rehydrate the food. The bag suggests waiting one minute. I waited about five minutes, and the food was about 75% soft. This is much faster than some other brands of freeze-dried I've sampled. Some are difficult to rehydrate, but this was not. Perhaps it's because of the smaller sized nuggets?
I was dismayed when reading some of the reviews on Chewy's website. Some people feed this food dry. This is not how it was meant to be fed, and cats need the extra moisture! Please rehydrate it before use.
What did the cats think?
Sadie absolutely loved it!
Ringo gave it a sniff and walked away. I was disappointed in that, and will try again with him. Honestly, I did not even try with Benny. He probably would have eaten it dry, but again, it's not meant to be fed dry.
Overall, I am pleased with this food. While I likely will continue to feed raw food, it's a nice option to have in the cabinet.
Another thing I liked was how easy the bag was to open and close. The "ziplock" strip is about 1 1/2 inches from the top of the bag.
Disclaimer: We were given one bag of food in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are are own.
