Meet Blackie

This is Blackie (named by the neighbors). He was Lucy's former housemate, and the other cat we trapped last December. He comes regularly for food, and about six weeks ago I got to pet him for the first time! Then yesterday I got to pet and scratch him again, and he purred!

Note: It was raining when I took these photos, and the yard was very wet.

He started to approach me. . .

And. . then he changed his mind.
Nope. Not today, lady.

He's a regular in the neighborhood now, and several people know I feed him. I'm not sure where he stays. I know only the general direction. He clearly has a routine and a hidey-hole.

He's not truly feral, because he will look at me and meow at me, but he is quite wary. When I did get to pet him, he was skittish and quickly backed away afterward.

While I wish I could do more for him, he is at least neutered and being fed.

Continue to speak softly to Blackie, and offer him pets! I feel he'll become a regular customer for them. It only took Sweetie over five years to allow me to touch her! Taking her in for a dental made all the difference; no longer in mouth pain, she decided that I was mostly okay!

That is great that Blackie comes back to eat. He will get more and more friendly. It just takes lots of time to earn their trust but it is so rewarding when it happens.

I'm glad you're taking care of this handsome guy! How sad that he was abandoned.

sometimes the best we can do is provide food and shelter and hope they will learn to trust again

So nice that the handsome boy purred for you. Think someone left the dish you mentioned for him?
