An update on Blackie

We've been putting off writing this post, but finally want to update you on the story of Blackie. He was one of three abandoned cats, along with Lucy and another brown tabby, left behind by a neighbor. The brown tabby was eventually trapped and taken back to the neighbor, but he didn't want Lucy or Blackie.

We trapped and adopted Lucy. We trapped Blackie too, but he was already neutered, so we returned him to the neighborhood. He kept visiting us regularly, and was getting fed by us. We talked to another neighbor who wanted to adopt him into their home. They were feeding him too and letting him into their home a little each day. We were thrilled.

I had surgery in mid September, and was off work for four weeks. I spent some time on the patio with Blackie into October. . .when I didn't see him anymore. My hope was that he was indoors full-time with the neighbors.

In early December, I talked to this neighbors, who had sad news. They had taken Blackie indoors, but after a few days, Blackie became restless and upset at being kept inside. One afternoon, he ripped open a window screen and escaped. . . and didn't come back.

I've kept watch for Blackie ever since but have not seen him. We had hoped he'd stop by, because he enjoyed the pets (and food) we gave him. But it's been a long time and nothing.

Did he wander into another neighborhood? Or perhaps he was trapped and brought to a shelter? It is sad that we will never know. One thing is for sure--he did not want to stay indoors anymore.

We'll miss seeing him. He enjoyed sitting on our patio chairs. Good luck wherever you are, Blackie.

Oh noes!
It's heartbreaking, when a stray/community cat disappears. The not-knowing is really hard. Sending love and happy thoughts out into the ether is the only thing to do, and I'll send some too to Blackie.

We is so sorry to hear that Blackie ran away. Hopefully he found a safe place with good beans to live nearby.

He must have been desperate to tear up a screen. Hopefully he just went to a new safe neighborhood.

Awww. I found Bear on the street - but I take for granted how easy it was to transition him to being an indoor only cat. We hope Blackie is okay. And shame on the people who left him behind! That's just cruel. Thank goodness there were good people to care for him.

What a sad end to Blackie's story. I think sometimes it's worse for the humans when they don't know what happened, or if the kitty's safe. Purrs to you and to the humans who took Blackie in for a while.

We are so sorry Blackie ran away, we pray that he has found a safe place where he can live outside and still be loved and cared for.

it is hard when you don't have closure, but you can always imagine he's off having adventures and enjoying the life he has carved out for himself.
