OOPS, we are a day late! But we still wanted to post about this important topic.
Nothing breaks my heart more than seeing a cat fending for itself outside. In this part of the world, the climate is harsh, and scenes like this make me sad:
A couple of years ago, I saw a cat eating stale crusts of bread underneath our bird feeder. It ripped out my heart to see this beautiful animal reduced to that. I trapped and had her spayed and named her Bella:
I released her back outdoors. I see her about once per week, usually in our backyard, but sometimes in the neighborhood. She is very wary of humans and I never can get close, but I at least know she is ok.
Another cat, whom I haven't seen in a while, named Barney, sometimes visits. I was delighted to see "he" already had an ear tip on his right ear (the sign that a feral cat has been altered).
There are many generous and wonderful people who trap and spay cats, and they deserve kudos. My part in this is small, but every cat helped makes a difference. If just one person in each neighborhood trapped and spayed a feral cat, imagine the difference it could make!
The life of a feral cat is so sad. We're lucky that at least the weather isn't as bad for them as other parts of the country.

mom wishes for more for our feral and worries when she doesn't see her, but we know that providing her a warm and safe place is the most we can do
ReplyDeleteHelping ferals always happens one cat at a time...
ReplyDeleteI feel the same way. Every cat deserves to be loved.
ReplyDeleteOh Bella's behalf, I say thank you. I can imagine the feeling of seeing her eating bird left overs..
