Tucker, July 4, 1998-July 18, 2014

Tucker took a turn for the worse tonight, so we had a mobile vet come to the house to end his suffering. At about 10:25 p.m., he quietly slipped away.

Run free, Tucker boy. . .

  7. Oh, no, Rene, I'm so sorry. This is the post I've been dreading. I'm so glad you had the option of a mobile vet, though -- I think that would have been easier on Tucker.

I know your heart, and Jim's too, is broken, and I know there's nothing I can write that will help. I've posted a paraphrased quote before, that all the holes in our hearts are to let the Light shine through...What else is there to say? Tucker was loved beyond words, and always will be.

Wishing you peace, sending purrs and hugs.

I am so very very sorry that Tucker time with you drew to a close. I don't know what is worse, the unknowing phase, the in between, or the final goodbye. Your heart I well know aches more than you thought it could. I wish there was some magical thing any of us could say that would make it easier. But alas, there is not. I do believe that the amount of grief you'll feel is akin the amount of love you have, which is more that could ever be totaled. One thing I hope you will keep close to your heart. Tucker was loved, so loved for 16 years. He loved you that much in return. Hang onto to those memories. Our loved ones never truly leaves us. They live on in the kindness they showed, the comfort they shared,&the love they brought into our lives

  28. Just so sorry for the loss of your sweet boy.

Someone sent me this when I lost my Minnie:
“How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.”
    AA Milne.

It won't make it any easier now, but it will down the road.

  34. Very sorry it was Tucker's time to leave for the bridge. He evidently brought a lot of happiness into your lives. It was thoughtful of you to give him a treat of something he'd have on his "bucket list" - an ear of corn. Hugs, purrs and tail wags of comfort.

  35. our sorrow for you is so great Rene...may the words of my favorite poetry comfort your heart a little...with tender love, Karla

    When Great Trees Fall
    Maya Angelou

    When great trees fall,
    rocks on distant hills shudder,
    lions hunker down
    in tall grasses,
    and even elephants
    lumber after safety.

    When great trees fall
    in forests,
    small things recoil into silence,
    their senses
    eroded beyond fear.

    When great souls die,
    the air around us becomes
    light, rare, sterile.
    We breathe, briefly.
    Our eyes, briefly,
    see with
    a hurtful clarity.
    Our memory, suddenly sharpened,
    examines,
    gnaws on kind words
    unsaid,
    promised walks
    never taken.

    Great souls die and
    our reality, bound to
    them, takes leave of us.
    Our souls,
    dependent upon their
    nurture,
    now shrink, wizened.
    Our minds, formed
    and informed by their
    radiance,
    fall away.
We are not so much maddened
as reduced to the unutterable ignorance
    of dark, cold
    caves.

    And when great souls die,
    after a period peace blooms,
    slowly and always
    irregularly. Spaces fill
    with a kind of
    soothing electric vibration.
    Our senses, restored, never
to be the same, whisper to us.
    They existed. They existed.
We can be. Be and be and be better. For they existed.

  36. So sorry to hear that you had to say goodbye to Tucker...We are not sure if we have ever visited before, but we smiled to see him nibbling the corn and that he had some special time with you on the porch... Tucker will live in your hearts forever and would not want you to be sad, and soon, may you smile when you think of the happy times you shared...
