Thank you to all who left good wishes about Benny's belly. Our vet visit went well. Our two "preferred" vets were not available this week, but we saw another vet there whom I'd liked from a previous visit with Tucker.
He did a scraping of his ouchie and did not find anything unusual. I told him I'd ordered a Spirit Essence called Obsession blend, and he was cool with that. We agreed to increase his morning dosage but leave the evening dose the same--to try for 4-6 weeks. I will start the essence and then back off on the morning dosage again. If he starts his overgrooming again, I know to increase the dosage back to what it was.
One of the reasons I like this clinic is that the vets are open to "other" forms of treatments. The vet I usually see knows I talk to cat people and do my homework, and it's clear he noticed this too.
Benny, as always, was a very good patient, even though we had to wait at the clinic for nearly an hour (there was some not-so-good news happening, and things were delayed, which was ok with us).
I took a video of him in the car, just before I pulled out of the driveway. While he is a good patient at the office, he is not a good rider. Fuzzy Tales calls this "warrior song," which makes me laugh.
Please come back tomorrow--it's a special day here! :-)

I think it was Carole, with the now-angel Admiral, who started the "warrior song" thing. :-)
Fingers (and paws) crossed for Benny.
You are so, so lucky to have a vet who is open to non-pharmaceutical options. I dig my heels in and go that route anyway, but oh, you can feel the disapproval and disbelief wafting off the boys' current vet.
What about Zylkene, for calming? That can be given up to a month at a time, so shorter term. Not sure how it is for long-term use, since it's a natural product based on a milk protein. I wouldn't have thought there would be long-term issues, but I don't think it's been around long enough to say (originates in the UK, I believe).
Or how about those Vetri-Science Composure treats, for calming? They might help too, and those are fine long term. I can't say they're really making a difference with Derry, but I give them anyway, can't hurt.
We had a cat that used to sing the warrior song so loudly that by the time we arrived at the vet (5 minute car ride) she would be hoarse!!!!
Hope Benny shows improvement soon.
Angel sings the warrior song, too! but she is in the corner shaking as she sings!
warrior song! :) I so wish I could listen to it but probably not a good idea while at work.. I'll watch it when I get home.
paws crossed this works and works so well that he heals right quick. I'm usually all too quick to jump right into the deep end and 'nip things in the bud' if you will but that quite often can way overshoot the mark and stresses everyone out needlessly.
Austin does that warrior song. It is so pitiful to me!!! Bless. Hope Benny’s tummy gets better soon !
OMG, Benny sounds just like Tiny when I have to take him to the vet. It almost sounds like "help." Hope Benny gets better on the new dosage and Spirit Essence.
When I took the one who came before, (Sasha), in the car to the vet, she would howl all the way there and all the way back and be hoarse afterwards. As soon as she was in the clinic she was her loving adorable LOUD purrer self.
I could NOT leave windows open in the car. Passers-by thought I was torturing someone. Everyone stared!
brandi however, curls up and is quiet. Unless there is a bump in the road. And I think that's fair.
Oh, poor Benny. Sending purrs and hopes you'll feel better soon.
btw, we're not fond of riding in the cage either because we know where it leads to...the V-E-T. Ugh.

I just went back and read the post about his hot spots--poor Benny!!
I love the "warrior song" name for the car howling. Scarlett and Melly both do that--Scarlett sounds a bit like Benny, but Melly sort of squeaks angstily. When I played the video, I had to stop after a few seconds because Scarlett was getting all worked up!
Benny, we hopes you feel better. We is sendin' purrayers fur you!
Luv,
Your furriend Phoenix (& Furmom)
