Some of you might remember (or were disgusted by) our bug, a Madagascar hissing cockroach. Yesterday when I was going to make breakfast, she was upside down in her cage. Jim took her out, held her, and put her upright in the cage. Sadly, when I came home from work, she was gone. We had her 23 months, and I must admit that she grew on me. Goodbye little bug.

The bug gets a bigger home
I recently found a bigger cage for our bug at a thrift store. Here's a size comparison of old cage versus new cage.
I replaced the mulch, gave her a fresh toilet paper roll, and added two sticks for climbing. She seemed happy for the extra space (well, as happy as a cockroach can be).

I must get this bug
Sadie has an ongoing fascination with our cockroach. (Read about how we got this bug.)
I WILL get this bug yet. I just don't know how.
A better shot of the bug.
We've had this bug for 14 months now, and I have to say she's growing on me. She has a little personality, and will watch me as I wash dishes.

Sadie and the bug
Remember Tucker and the bug? Sadie, too has been fascinated with him (her?).
I couldn't get a photo of it, but she will extend her paw to touch the cage.

Tucker and the bug
First, thank you to everyone who posted comments about our late family friend. The funeral was a dignified tribute and send off. The family was very appreciative of the support.
Today's photos include a newer member of the, um, family. Jim works for a community newspaper, and as part of a press release, was given a hissing Madacascar cockroach. This bug is HUGE, more than 3 inches long. In the second photo, I drew an arrow pointing to him (her?).
The cats are fascinated with this creature. Here's Tucker watching with interest.

There must be something in the air that's bothering the cats. Last week, Sadie had a weepy eye (clear) and sneezed a few times. The oth...
