One of the best things I've ever bought for the cats is a digital postal scale to weigh them. At the time (8 years ago), I thought the $40 was expensive. It's proved invaluable, and I've found other uses for it too. I've weighed packages, letters, vegetables from my garden, and fats for soapmaking.
Since Tucker's cancer diagnosis, I've been keeping tabs on his weight. I put a box on the scale, tare it out, and place a cat inside.
Geez, mom, how embarrassing. |
Tucker's usual weight is 14 lb. 10 oz., so he's up one ounce.
Unfortunately, Sadie's weight is up too, a few ounces.
I do NOT want to sit still for this. |
Benny would have none of this and I could not get a photo.
I highly recommend getting a digital scale like this. It's really great tool to have.

It does look like a great idea!!!! I have so much trouble weighing the boys.
We have one for Scott's business...Sylvester weighs 18# and he's LOST weight! He is a HUGE cat.
What a wonderful idea!
Hugs to Tucker,Sadie and Benny
stay safe xoxo lots of love
What a terrific idea for weighing cats! I think that is much better than going to the v-e-t to be weighed! I am a little cat so it's easy to weigh me but Willow was told that she should exercise more.....
Purrrrrrrrrrrs, China Cat
P.S. Thanks for the Happy Birthday wishes!
I avoid the scale myself, too. Sadie and Tucker, you're both looking good. Mommy will get you soon, Benny.
Years ago (and a previous generation of cats ago!), I bought a baby scale to do the same thing. It's less accurate than a postal scale, but it helped me keep an eye on Cyrano's weight during the long, long battle with hyperthyroid and CRF.
The current generation of cats won't go near it. Using a box is a great idea! What cat doesn't like a box?
We're glad Tucker is keeping his weight up!
Great idea!
I hear there's one of those scale things in my future. I'm just a little scared. So scared I think I'm going to go have a little snack.

I bought a baby/toddler scale a while back that was on sale and I've never regretted it. I'm actually thinking of getting a second so i don't have to have the fosters and my own cats share.
