First, thank you to everyone who posted comments about our late family friend. The funeral was a dignified tribute and send off. The family was very appreciative of the support.
Today's photos include a newer member of the, um, family. Jim works for a community newspaper, and as part of a press release, was given a hissing Madacascar cockroach. This bug is HUGE, more than 3 inches long. In the second photo, I drew an arrow pointing to him (her?).
The cats are fascinated with this creature. Here's Tucker watching with interest.

Oh. My.
What an amazing creature. Oh wow. I cannot see the connection between this fabulously icky creature and the community newspaper but I bet it was fun!! WOW!!! And yuck at the same time!! A hissing cockroach. Life is just so amazing!

Good snoopervising job, Tucker!!!!!!!!
Happy Monday to all of you.
We were sad to hear of your mama's loss.
xxxxxxx
We bet he's very crunchy and wonder if he hisses all the way down to your belly after you eat him. Our Mom is going "eeeee-uuuuu!"
I'd be a bit concerned of the new protein source Tucker is contemplating.
We hope he does not escape!
Just THINK of the crunch factor!
Mommy says she hopes it's not a pregnant female. aaaaiiiieeee!!!!
That does sound like a fun creature for the cats to check out! It's way more interesting than the native bugs here, that's for sure!
Also, ew.
Mama is shivering in a corner, but we are VERY interested!
I love that top picture of Tucker! I can only imagine what was going through his head, lol.
