Tucker's (broken) tail

I feel like a terrible cat mom again tonight. Tucker has a bad habit of being or sitting near doorways. I was going to the bathroom and, while shutting the door, he turned around and I shut his tail in the door! He ran away, his tail hanging at a funny angle. I immediately called the vet and rushed him there (crying all the way).

The bad news is that it's broken (about 1 1/2" from the end). The good news is that there is no skin or surface damage, so it will heal on its own. The vet wrapped his tail and sent us home with a few days of pain medication. Below is a photo of him and his wrapped tail-io.

He has already yanked off the bandage, which the vet said he might do. We will monitor him closely and give him pain medication for a few days. While I feel terribly about this, it could have been much worse (as in, partial tail amputation!).Needless to say, I won't be shutting any doors tightly for a while.

Poor Tucker! Poor Mom! Tucker understands it was an accident. I know that does not make you feel much better!

Oh noes! Your poor Mom! She must feel horribles! We imagine you are hurting too but know the pain meds will help. Hey, good buddy, milk it for all it's worth, okay? hehehe!

Oh that is terrible for both of you! WE know you didn't mean for it to happen - and we are sure that Tucker knows too. Our mom and dad are always worried about getting a part of one of us stuck in a door - mom is afraid our paws will get pinched so she put weights to hold them open - it makes it so they have to check for us. Dad caught Virgil in the fridge door the other day - same thing, sudden direction change and bam, it was too late. We were lucky but we know it can happen. We are sending lots of purrs and prayers for Tucker, and hugs for you - don't worry, you are still a great cat mom (a bad cat mom wouldn't have acted so quickly - you did a great job of getting it taken care of right away!)
