Thrifty Thursday: Christmas pin

This week it's a gifty Thursday! Our friend Susan gave us this really neat Christmas pin. I've already worn it.

Pets from long ago

I was recently scanning some old photos, and found some of pets I had while growing up.

This is Woody. My parents had her before I was born. I remember, as a small child, sleeping in contorted positions when Woody would choose to sleep with me. She lived to be about 16 or 17.

This is Holly, my parent's first dog (a sheltie) with Berries (my childhood cat). It was May 6, 1987. Berries was hissing and Holly was running away.

Here is Berries at about 6 or 7 months old. She has a piece of dry food on her leg. I wrote on the back of the photo "loves food."

This is Pee-Wee, my parent's shih tzu, in 1989. He is holding a hamburger toy in his mouth.

Berries grew up to love dogs, and here she is with Pee-Wee. (Yes, that is a Christmas hat on Pee-Wee. We used to dress him up.)

I hope you enjoyed this trip down memory lane.

Starting the new year with memories of Berries

It has been a long time since I've posted anything about Berries. She was my childhood cat who lived 19 years, and she was a sweet and special girl.

My sister recently found a photo from summer 2005, Berries' last summer with us (she died in February 2006). I don't remember this photo but I'm so glad to have it. I'm holding my niece.

Friday flashback: Berries

I thought I had shared this before, but I could not find a scan of it, so I obviously had not. This is my favorite photo of my childhood cat, Berries. She was 5-6 months old and lounging in a garden hose. This photo shows her personality so well.

She died in 2006 at the age of 19. She will always have a special place in my heart. I miss you, Berries.

Friday flashback: kitten Berries from 1989

This is my childhood cat, Berries, when she was about five months old. I'd originally named her Jasper, but changed it to Berries. I painted the play box for her.

Friday flashback: Berries from 1989

My childhood cat, Berries, from summer of 1989. She was about three years old in this photo. She loved to roll on the ground and get belly rubs. You can see her right eye looks different. She sustained an injury to her eye (we don't know how) and she lost sight in it.

I miss you, Berries. You were one of a kind.

A special summer photo

I was looking through some older photo CDs tonight, ones I had made at Walgreens before I owned a digital camera. I found this photo of Berries and I from July 2004. Berries was my childhood cat who I've posted about a few times before. She was about 17 years old in this photo, and I was walking her to my sister's house on my way to use their swimming pool. I like it because it's so candid.

Aw, Berries, I'll always miss you. You were a special kitty.

In memory of Berries

At the bottom of this blog, you'll see a dedication to Berries. Who was she? She was my childhood cat. I think of her often this time of year. She died in January of 2006 at the ripe old age of 19. These are the last photos I took of her in November 2005, with my nephew Jacob. As you can see, she loved Jacob and was not afraid of a five-year-old. I love the way she is looking at Jacob in the last photo; she looks so content.
I love all of my pets, past and present, but Berries has a very special place in my heart. I miss you, Mid.

More kitten mania

I can't help it. I see Sadie do such adorable things, and it reminds me of all the cats I've owned/had during my life. A very special cat, Berries, was one of them. She was my childhood cat that, after years of begging, my parents agreed to let me have. I took complete responsibility for her, including feeding, playing, and litter box duty. I even paid for her spay myself ($47 at the time). Berries live to the ripe old age of 19. Though she's been gone almost three years, I think of her almost every day. Enjoy these kitten photos of her.
Photo captions
TOP: The first photo ever taken of Berries, before I even owned her. This was taken at about the age of six weeks at the house where the litter was born. Even though she was so tiny, her easy-going personality is apparent in this photo.
MIDDLE: My sister Cheryl took this photo the first full day we had her, May 6, 1987. That's my leg in the photo. There's a yellow kitchen timer in the lower right of the photo. We had to go to school that day and the timer reminded us to get ready for the bus.
BOTTOM: Berries around six months old. Her first name was Jasper (which I'd painted onto her play box) but shifted to Jasberries and then just Berries.
