Welcome to this week's gardening post. It's a short one, as I didn't have time to take many new garden photos.

My gladious are in bloom! However, sometimes buying a sack of bulbs can be a mystery. These were marked as "purple." I'm not complaining--the color is gorgeous.

Here's what going on in the garden.

The catnip is growing, so I picked and hung a bunch to dry in the garage (out of the kitties' reach).

 

This is our neighbor's catnip plant--the biggest catnip plant I've seen!

 

The morning glories are in bloom!

I checked my carrots for the first time. These are a special variety for growing in containers, so they are stubby. They tasted great!

My bee balm is almost done blooming. It's right near a pretty kitty windchime too.

I have some tomatoes finally growing on the vine.

My gladioas have buds and will be blooming soon. I planted purple ones this year.

We have this giant hosta in front of the house. It is several feet wide and probably three feet tall.

The stalks that bloom grow fantastically tall, probably 5-6 feet or more. The stalks are starting to pop up and grow. I hope my hand gives a sense of the scale of the leaves.

I have an exciting gardening event to share. A couple of weeks ago, I posted  photos of my native Wisconsin cactus. I've had it 6 or 7 years, but it's never bloomed. Well, it finally is blooming this year, and I'm thrilled.

It's time to see what's looking good in the garden!

Remember the pot of petunias Tucker admired? They have really grown.

My daylilies have started blooming. They are the old-fashioned kind.

My tomato plants finally have their first blossoms.

Another lily in bloom. These are Asiatic lilies.

There are five different sedum in this photo. Can you spot them all?

Here's some help:

Here's a corner of sedum with two cat statues near our back door. It's really looking good this year.

Here's what's looking good in the garden this week!

My clump of "buttercups." I'm not sure if this is their true name, but they are pretty and low maintenance.

Wisconsin is home to three species of native cactus. I'm fortunate to have one of them, an Opuntia (a prickly pear relative).

The lighter green pads are the new spring growth.

My "mystery" flower is in bloom. It was given to me a number of years ago, and the woman didn't know its name. However, it grows freely in our backyard in the dry shade.

Let's see what's looking good in the garden this week.

This is the first year I've tried a fushia plant. It has been cool so far this season and it's slow in growing, but the flowers look good.

A clump of native Wisconsin grass I bought a few years ago is doing well--it has tripled in size with no care.

Not a plant, but I thought you'd enjoy seeing the kitty statue Jim bought for me last Christmas.

Welcome to Gardening Thursday!

In bloom this week are some allium. These are my first allium and I love their shape. Thanks to my friend Amy, I recently acquired a second variety.

My iris are in bloom. I love these flowers. They are extra special because they are divided from 60+ year old bulbs from my grandma's farm.

Another, much smaller iris variety in bloom. So far, just one flower, but it's an impressive one.

A container I planted--I like the two flower colors and how they contrast each other.
