Sadie and the thunderstorms

Since she was a kitten, Sadie has been afraid of thunderstorms. She'll hide deep in the basement (we think).

We think she can sense when storms are coming (hours before they come), because she will sit in what we call her "pre-storm spot." It's right in front of the main litter box.
Listening for storms.

If we know a storm is coming, we'll give her a couple of calming treats (we reviewed these for Chewy a number of months back). They help a little, but often we don't know when a storm comes, so can't always give them to her.
Mmm, treats.
It's supposed to storm here today, so I gave her two treats this morning.

She is a cat barometer.

I feel sad for her that she's so scared, but I also can't help but think how sweet she looks. It's also interesting me to how animals have such a better sense of weather than humans do.

Thunderstorms aren't fun at all! I don't hate them as much as other cats (in fact, I get treats during them - not calming treats, just regular ones), but I can understand why Sadie wouldn't like them.

Our Sasha hides too, but the other two could care less. They'll even sit out in the sun room with us as we watch and listen to the storm.

Thankfully he doesn't seem to be terribly afraid, he's just doesn't like the noise or the flashes of light.

I wonder if you get a small dogs thunder shirt to put on Sadie. It might also help keep her calm.

Weather forecasters should hire cats, they are more predictable than the radar.
