Jim found this map on Strangemaps the other day (click on the map to make it larger, blue is pop, red is coke, and yellow is soda). I was raised to call a carbonated beverage a 'pop,' but now use 'soda' when I'm in public to avoid embarrassment.

So, I can't quite tell - is that blue county in NE WI your home county?
It looks like my home county is safely in the green 'soda' zone - and that just over the border where my grandma lived in the UP is in the blue 'pop' zone - which would fit with my childhood memories.
It's a bit hard to tell, but yes, it appears I was in pop country.
