I do believe cats are liquid, and are comfortable fitting themselves into what ever space makes them happy :)
Weird neck positions seem to be common amongst cats.
Even I'm not sure I'd be comfortable like that!

My Sami sleeps in a similar spot and position. There is a divot in the couch from her body. The old couch had one too.
