Chewy.com review: Nature's Variety Instinct wet food

A number of years ago, we fed some of this food, but not this variety (duck).

The good: 95% meat, grain free, no corn, wheat or soy

The not-so-good: It contains some fruit and vegetables (like artichoke?). Fortunately, these are the last ingredients in the list, so there are minute amounts.

The food is very wet and has almost no smell (a good sign).

It was so wet, it didn't cut cleanly into sections (I usually quarter a can this size). Unfortunately, one section of food had a whole pea in it (the pea was left uneaten by the cats).

Benny hardly acknowledged this as food and immediately walked away. This was a not a surprise, as he is an older guy with established food preferences.

Ringo ate it right away but didn't finish the portion.

Now Sadie had a curious reaction to this food. She is usually our "garbage can," and will eat nearly anything. At first, she sniffed it and walked away.

Nope.

I left the food down for 5 or 10 minutes, ignoring her. She came back and scarfed it all down.

This is not a protein we feed very much, and I've learned that kitties often need to experience a new protein several times before accepting it as food. You can also mix it with a food you've already fed to make it more "familiar."

Except for the random fruits/veggies, this is a decent product. They offer a number of other proteins.

You guys didn't scarf it down immediately?! 'Cause that's what we do - we love this food! We even eat the vegetables!

We like this food. It may not be our favorite...but we usually eat it.

Great review. That is funny that they left the pea. I avoid duck because the one time I tried it, everyone had tummy troubles, but it could just be because they were not used to it.
