As he's aged, Benny has seemed to "forgotten" what catnip is and has little interest in it. I'm not sure if it's age or cognitive issues.
But, I'd brought in some new sprouts of catnip from outside and I find this:

Maybe the fresh nip appeals more to Benny. With older cats, tastes and preferences do change.
I found some fresh leaves in the garden to bring in yesterday too. Spring!
Of course they can! There are cats who live a catnip and those who don't. The age doesn't matter :D
